24th 9/11 Anniversary: Examining the causes, and the consequences.
On the occasion of the 24th 9/11 Anniversary, coming up in two days, this article will be examining what the reasons behind the attacks were, and how this crime, acted as the straw that broke the camel's back, regarding a long awaited series of war, with the US, as the prime factor.
It was a sunny Tuesday morning, that arose in the city that never sleeps, on September 11th 2001. A morning that didn't really thrust anyone to go to work. You see, New York didn’t really have days like this. Days perfect to just go for a walk, or eat an ice cream. However, the workers of the two most fabulous buildings in the big apple, couldn’t just skip the day, they were vital for the “proper” function of all the companies, that CEOs, chairmen, or any official, up the corporate ladder, would probably not even show up every day of the week. “I could get fired” many would think on these occasions, but it’s these days, that you realise that getting fired, isn’t nothing compared to the fate of not taking that risk, could be. But before we step into the event itself, let’s firstly analyse the two buildings, and why they were considered the two “royal” towers of the USA.
David Rockefeller, one of the richest bankers of his time, was also the one that proposed the construction of two towers, in 1966, that would adorn New York, for generations to come. The target of the project was to invigorate Lower Manhattan, while also stating that the USA is at its peak, USA is the strongest, USA is the centre of the world. What’s a better way to do that, than by building towers, taller than anything the world has ever seen? Building two of them is the answer. 3,500 workers, 200,000 tons of stainless steel, 425,000 cubic metres of concrete, 5,000 tons of aluminum. However, the irony lies in the way all these came together. Well, Yamasaki(chief architect) used none other than the Islamic Architecture, to build the two towers, wonders of architecture, only for them to come down by Jihadist, years after his death.
Going back to the 11th of September 2001, while everyone was having a typical morning, and everything was going on as usual, something very unexpected broke the routine, something that definitely wasn’t on the President’s schedule who at the time was visiting an elementary school in Florida. Suddenly an aircraft of American Airlines, went off route, and hit the North Tower, causing chaos in New York City. Workers in the building, not knowing what was going on yet, were becoming ecstatic, trying to figure out what caused the explosion and the, as they thought, earthquake. The 92 passengers of the plane were immediately killed. The people that took over the plane, and caused the destruction, were members of the Al-Qaeda, a terrorist organisation, which believed in suicide in the name of Allah. How did the terrorists get there? Totally legally, through a college program carried out by the US at the time, with one of them studying aviation.
While rescuers did arrive and tried to rescue the 1000+ people in the building, not everyone’s luck was the same. The tower is on fire, escalators, stairs, everything is destroyed, even if people could survive from dying of suffocation – highly unlikely, because of the tons of kerosine in the building – their chances of getting out were touching zero, especially those in the top floors. The fire is “nowhere near under control” as one reporter communicates, and breaking windows is prohibited, because of the fear of an ignition, due to the fresh oxygen. The South Tower workers, terrified of the earthquake caused by the North Tower, while seeing it engulfed in flames, and burning to ashes, decided to start coming down and leaving the tower, when security ordered them to turn around, go back in the building, because there they would be “safe”. Actually, they were, until 9:03, when a second plane hit the South Tower, leaving everyone in the world in shock. “Oh my god there’s another one” a bystander famously stated, when he realised that they are not witnessing a random event, but a calculated attack.
George Bush, just being informed of the event, stood by as an observer of his own incompetence. See, the USA, knew Al-Qaeda was a threat, all the way back since the first Clinton Administration, but seeing the President, just realising that he undermined them, and let them terrorise the country is just shocking. This man didn’t just cost the lives of the 2,000+ people in the incident, but betrayed the trust of the people that elected him, in one of the most controversial elections in US history. And not only that, but he continued to take lives and destroy the world, through a second term.
If these weren't enough, one of the world's safest, and best secured buildings was hit by a third plane. The pentagon, the home of all defense, governmental matters, was hit by a plane that they couldn’t stop from being taken over, driven to its destination and finally hit it, with immense power. That’s the moment when you realise the prime responsibility doesn’t belong to Al-Qaeda, but to the Bush Administration, that could only safeguard one of the target-buildings. The White House…
However, understanding the root causes of the attacks, unveils even more irresponsibility, from the power thirsty government of the United States. That would take us back to 1979, at the peak of the Cold War, when the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, and of course the US, can’t just observe, but should be involved, they should be there to maintain “peace” and “democracy”. By giving money, and weapons to the Afghans, they achieve something that they weren’t, probably, planning. They continued the war, which decimated ⅓ of the Afghan population(killing some, exiling others), and forcing the Afghans to recruit Jihadists in their armies, because they had no other choice. Osama Bin Laden, Al Qaeda, this is who the US gave weapons to, and basically served themselves on a silver platter, to the people that were planning to turn the whole thing around.
The Afghans finally won the war, with the Americans vanishing completely, and the country being handed to the Talibans, who enforced Islamic law, and offered Bin Laden, and Al-Qaeda, “a place to stay”.
The two symbols of American superiority, political and economic stability, did fall. And that says a lot more than the buildings themselves. It shows that the “prime” America has fallen, just like Rome, it fell gradually and destroyed itself from within.
But of course, it didn’t end there, with America you just know, it didn’t end there. George Bush, through a speech, hypocritically, hugging a firefighter, and proudly assuring American citizens that this isn’t his fault, declared war on terrorism, war on Al-Qaeda, war on Osama Bin Laden. Bush didn’t destroy terrorism, he helped new organisations arise, Bush didn’t destroy Al-Qaeda, he made it stronger, Bush didn’t capture Bin Laden, Obama did. The only thing he achieved was to declare one war after the other, even on countries not involved at all, and spreading chaos. Iraq had nothing to do with Al-Qaeda, that was confirmed. The war was declared for profit, it’s always the profit. In 2010, Osama Bin Laden, was captured and eliminated. A photo of his dead body was never released in order to “maintain peace”, and ensure that “Muslims don’t cause more terrorism”. Because, as you see, that’s what the Jihadists needed to cause terror, the photo of his body. Everything else was perfect. Finally, in 2020 president Trump signed an agreement with the very terrorists they swore to destroy twenty years ago, giving them permission to take over Afghanistan and enforce radical islamic law. Talibans negotiated with the US, and they won. They were so determined to make them pay, that they offered them the same land they took from them. So, I’d like to highlight that we’re currently living in the age of terrorism, with not one, but over 50, big, terrorism organisations. Who’s fault this is? The United States of America. It’s always the United States of America. Remember that…
